An exceptional Irish George III period mahogany and brass bound peat bucket of good size and unusual design with uniquely hinged brass swing handle; the body of tapered stave-construction with graduated ring-turned carving.  A similar bucket is illustrated on page 257 in 'Irish Furniture: Woodwork and Carving in Ireland from the Earliest Times to the Act of Union' by The Knight of Glin and James Peill, Yale University Press, The Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art, New Haven and London, 2007.
