A C R O T E R I O N is pleased to offer this exceptionally fine and doubly rare circa 1815 English regency period chair of petite modified klismos form, the solid mahogany frame having caned ‘barrel’ back with ebonized ‘single reed’ top and side rails joining upholstered seat with ebonized ‘double reed’ seat-rails connecting to square corner blocks inset with ebonized fields and bosses atop sabre-splayed legs inset with tapering-point ebonized reeding raised on original brass casters. Note: This remarkable chair is one of a companion set from the library at Althorp, Northamptonshire, the seat of the Earls of Spencer and ancestral home of HRH, Diana, The Princess of Wales. The last photo courtesy of the estate showing two of the chairs in situ in the library. In the past, the Althorp estate licensed a limited number of copies of this chair manufactured by Maitland-Smith, this is a singular opportunity to acquire an original.
