A wonderful large Irish George III circa 1780 peat, turf, or kindling bucket of solid mahogany stave construction and round tapering form with brass banding and pivoting handle, Edwardian period tin liner marked by maker "T. Sheppard Cork". Measurements: 25.5" high with handle raised; 17.38" high to top of rim. An identical "dinner-plate" version of this bucket in the collection of The National Museum of Ireland is pictured on page 24 of "Irish Furniture & Woodcraft by John Teahan, published 1994 by Town House and Country House, Dublin.
