A New York Federal period mahogany side chair of elegantly austere design having rectangular form backrest with vertical splats, upholstered slip-seat raised on front square legs and splayed rear, united by an H-frame stretcher. Please see 'The Federal Furniture and Decorative Arts at Boscobel' by Berry B. Tracy, Harry N. Abrams, New York, page 42, figure 14, for an identical armchair acquired by the museum in 1962.
